The Bronson Prayer Challenge

#1) Take your doubts about a mission and get on your knees. God knows the hearts of all men which means he already knows you’re having doubts, but He can truly help you once you come to Him for help. Present God with your doubts. Explain everything to Him. He’s there to listen, and that is what He will do – listen.
#2) Tell God the desires of your heart. In other words, make up your mind, and give him a clear cut answer. We’ve been told many times by general authorities that this gospel is not for “fence sitters,” and the same is true for this challenge. It is much harder for God to help you if you are “wishy-washy” on the subject. Be honest with Him. I told God: “A mission is not for me. As of right now, I am preparing my future plans, and a mission is not included in them. If I’m supposed to serve a mission, I have the faith that you will show me the way.” Present Him with your choice, and if it’s the wrong one, He will help you make it the right one just like He did for me.
#3) HAVE FAITH. There’s an important line I wanted to highlight in step two which is why I had it italicized. “I have the faith that you will show me the way.” In my opinion, this process draws many similarities to that which people go through when they seek to know for themselves if the Book of Mormon is true. The end of Moroni 10:4 reads: “…and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.” Those who desire to know the truth of the Book of Mormon must have faith that God will show unto them, and the same applies to you looking for your answer. God can only truly show you the way when you have faith.
#4) I can think of many times when I have heard that this gospel is not for the faint of heart, and neither is this challenge. I said earlier that the difficult part comes in truly believing that it will work. This comes from having faith but it also comes from continued diligence in seeking your answer. Once is never enough, and neither is twice, thrice, and so on. In other words, getting on your knees once isn’t going to do the trick. God will see the strength of your faith through your continued diligence in searching for an answer. We’re supposed to do our best to pray to God every day both morning and night, and there is nothing wrong with including something as important as this in every prayer you offer up to God. The more you pray to God about something, He will recognize and acknowledge your diligence. Don’t get discouraged. Don’t become fainthearted. Don’t give up. God may decide to test your diligence like He did mine, but as long as you never quit praying, He will reward your diligence.

The # 1 Missionary Sock

Choosing the correct sock is just as important as choosing the right shoes. What properties should your socks have and why are they important? Should you just buy any regular sock or should you get socks that will last several years with moisture wicking, cushioned soles, breathability and comfort? Read on and find answers to these questions.

As you tackle the daunting task of preparing a missionary for the next two years how often do you think about socks? If you are like most people probably never. Hopefully this article will change that and get you focused back on socks. Most missionaries spend a lot of time shopping for shoes but they grab whatever they see when it comes to socks. The reality is that socks are just as important as the shoes. Like a comfortable well-fitting shoe, the proper socks can greatly increase the comfort of your feet and protect them at the same time.

Missionaries must deal with heat, cold, moisture, blisters and comfort as they are out walking around or biking. These activities can be very hard on feet especially if you have the wrong socks. A good way to alleviate these issues is to purchase socks designed to combat the problems above. Here at Missionary Depot we have found the perfect sock.

Our socks are perfect for almost every situation whether it be formal, casual, sport or outdoor use because they provide excellent comfort and durability. Made from a hi-tech array of synthetic fabrics they are then blended in a special way to fight common foot irritations. Dry-release® technology keeps the moisture away from your feet and under control while FreshGuard® keeps the socks fresh every time. X2O® Acrylic fibers are naturally hydrophilic and contain Chitosan to protect from bacteria and odor.

These socks also have a seamless toe closure, lightweight cushiony soles, breathable mesh instep and a sure fit leg meaning they stay up no matter how many times they have been washed. Sound good? The socks also come with a 2 year performance guarantee so if they do not last we will replace them. Icing on the cake! Need more proof? Here are some sock reviews from satisfied customers.

These socks are perfect for everyday wear as well as hiking. They wick away moisture very well and are very comfortable. Several of my pairs have lasted for many years. Awesome! Well worth the cost. – Q

I bought one pair and now I have a dozen and I wear them every day. I work outside a lot in Utah and these socks keep my feet really dry. I still have my first pair from 6 years ago. You can rely on these socks for durability and comfort. – L

I found this article on Deseret News.com that I thought would be interesting. It is titled “What does your tie say about you?” by Whitney Butters. I thought it would be beneficial for missionaries and their families to read and it might help them pick out the ties they want to take. After all, your tie is the only article of clothing that missionaries can change that is different from the white shirt and dark conservative suits and slacks. Another aspect of tie buying to take into consideration is the fabric and quality. Silk ties are very nice but they can be expensive and might not hold up very well in your particular mission. Hot, humid areas can be havoc on a silk tie as well as your white shirt as the humidity might cause the tie to bleed onto your shirt. Microfiber or polyester seems to be the most popular fabric for missionary ties. They are durable, cheap (inexpensive) and colorful. I went through a lot of ties on my mission and traded a lot too so microfiber ties were perfect. Inexpensive and they even looked good. Now days the microfiber ties look and feel just like silk and the price is just what the doctor ordered.
